"Fishing with Popo"
Lilian Fu’s
2011
Fishing with Popo(2011) by Lilian Fu is among the artist-animator’s first experiments with documentary animation.
Lilian Fu's "Fishing with Popo" had the most profound impact on me. When I was a freshman in school, this animation was shown in one of my classes, and I knew nothing about animation at that time, but it started my interest in animation.
"Fishing with Popo" is about the author's grandmother's death and the author's longing for her, and recreates and tells the story about her through her family and her own memories. The first time I watched this film, my grandfather had just passed away, so I felt a special empathy for this film at that time. I really appreciated her storytelling, animation transitions and drawing style. Her storytelling makes the audience understand her grandmother step by step, both in appearance and in her life. Even though the picture is simple and the colors are bold, it still does not feel out of place and tells her grandmother's story very clearly. There is no conflict between the recording of the family and the picture and it flows very smoothly, even though the film is almost 9 minutes long.I think "Fishing with Popo" has a lot to offer, both in terms of storytelling and style, and I have also made some references in my film that I think are very well done, and I have added a lot of different elements to make the film better express what I want to say.

"Not for money, not for love, not for nothing"
John Robert Lee
2020
Using animation for anonymity, real questions are deliberated by real women, sharing their real stories.
"Not for money, not for love, not for nothing" It is a documentary animation, which is made up of simple lines and real film. I really appreciate his editing style and drawing style, which is also made up of crayons, pastels and pencils. The hand-drawn style seems to lightly describe the story of the film, but in fact the story is very heavy, his narrative style and drawing style have become one of my references.
