Making of
In this animation, I tried to draw different movements of the characters, such as walking in front and side, picking up the phone and answering it, and the process of transforming the characters into spirits, and also tried to use different perspectives to make it easier for me to bring out the meaning I wanted to express.
Character walking cycle (side)
I used the character walking cycle that I learned in the animation class to express the process of my grandfather walking to the phone booth. I think the movement of the character's feet is the most natural, while the upper body part of the hands is not natural enough and a bit strange. Later I adjusted the hand part a few times and then it became smooth.
Transforming character into spirits
I transformed the character into a soul.
The character is originally made of simple lines, so his soul is also made of lines. I wanted to express that Grandpa came back home with our memories, and our memories with Grandpa were happy and joyful, so I painted the memories as a rainbow of colors, with Grandpa's snow-white soul flying back to our home together.
Character walking cycle (front)
I think the frontal walking cycle is more difficult than the sideways walking cycle, because I have never drawn the frontal walking movement before and I don't know the movement of the characters, so I need to observe and imitate the walking movement of different characters. Although the movement of the characters is smooth, I think there is room for improvement in the head and hands.
Transforming character position
There are not many colors on the screen, so if I use lines to transfer the position of the characters, the screen will not be smooth enough, so I choose to use multiple pieces of color to transfer the characters to make the screen more dynamic and richer.
Perspective painting
In this scene I used my grandpa perspective to look at myself, I wanted to bring out my expression of sadness and reluctance towards my grandpa.
Spirits movement
Although it was our memories that brought Grandpa home, he still had his own consciousness and could move freely, so I made him float more and more freely when I painted his soul floating home.
Motion blur
The more difficult part of this Scene is not the painting part, Motion blur can be done by adding effect after painting the screen. I am not familiar with the application of after effect, so I encountered a lot of difficulties in the production process.
